Alice Mary DeLacy Gillon "Nanny"

About Me

My grandmother on my father's side ("Nanny") was the OG Crochet Queen.

Nanny crocheted everything from sweaters and ponchos to granny square afghans and everything in between. You name it - she could make it out of yarn.

Nanny taught me how to crochet when I was about 9 years old. She gave me a ball of yarn, a hook and set me up with my first granny square. I had no idea that something so simple would turn out to be one of the great loves of my life.

It wasn’t until many years later that I picked up my crochet hook while recovering from hip surgery. After a trip to the yarn store and a few YouTube videos, it all came back to me. Just like riding a bike. I was HOOKED [pun intended]!

During the pandemic I began crocheting daily and found it to be a wonderful way to relieve anxiety. I often think about Nanny while I’m crocheting and how grateful I am to her for teaching me such a beautiful craft.
